Pioneering the Future of Aesthetic Medicine: An Exclusive Interview with Dr. Pooth, Founder of Caarisma MED

Dr. Rainer Pooth / CEO

Studied medicine and pharmacy with over 20 years of experience in the international medical and industrial big pharma (Aventis, Sanofi, Merz). Former member of the supervisory board of a venture capital company (Ventizz Capital AG).

Aesthetic medicine is undergoing a significant transformation, with artificial intelligence (AI) at the forefront. Dr. Rainer Pooth, a renowned figure aesthetics, is driving this change. With over 40 patents and a rich history in developing drugs and medical devices, Dr. Pooth’s latest innovation, Caarisma MED, is set to redefine how aesthetic treatments are evaluated and performed.

In this exclusive interview, Dr. Pooth discusses the inspiration behind Caarisma MED, the role of AI in aesthetic medicine, and the potential it holds for both practitioners and patients.

The Genesis of Caarisma MED

Interviewer: Caarisma MED was your brainchild. How did the idea originate?

Dr. Pooth: Over my career, I developed numerous aesthetic scales for facial features that were widely adopted. But with the evolution of aesthetic treatments, especially multimodal approaches, these scales became inadequate. They served as tools, but the interpretation was always subjective and dependent on the practitioner’s experience.

Today, aesthetic medicine treats the face as a whole rather than addressing individual features in isolation. Objective evaluations are incredibly valuable here, providing both doctors and patients with a clearer picture of treatment outcomes. In other fields of medicine, objective, numerical evaluations have been standard for a long time. This was lacking in aesthetics, so my goal with Caarisma MED was to fill that gap, creating a tool that minimizes misunderstandings between doctors and patients while also eliminating biases, such as those related to age or ethnicity.

By adding an objective layer to the consultation process, we enhance the trust between doctor and patient, offering clarity before, during, and after treatment.

Why AI is Essential in Aesthetic Medicine

Interviewer: Why do you believe AI is the key to measurable outcomes in aesthetic medicine?

Dr. Pooth: Digital healthcare is growing rapidly, and AI is a perfect fit for improving performance and quality assurance in aesthetics. AI’s objectivity is its greatest strength. Caarisma MED evaluates over 1000 variables across 17 facial features and compiles them into two patented indices: the Facial Aesthetic Index (FAI) and Facial Youthfulness Index (FYI).

FAI, in particular, represents a groundbreaking innovation. Unlike other face scanners that focus on skin texture and tone, Caarisma MED evaluates proportions, symmetry, volume, lips, and wrinkles, providing a comprehensive, mathematically validated overview of which features have the most potential for improvement. This objective measurement enables practitioners to showcase treatment success, building trust with patients.

Adapting to Cultural Beauty Standards

Interviewer: Does the AI consider regional beauty standards, or does it adhere to a universal ideal?

Dr. Pooth: The algorithms behind Caarisma MED are tailored to reflect the aesthetic ideals of different ethnicities and regions. We’ve worked with experts in various countries to ensure our AI is culturally relevant. It takes into account the individual beauty standards of each patient’s ethnicity, helping provide personalized treatment recommendations.

Moreover, the AI continues to learn and adapt. With every image it processes, it refines its understanding of evolving beauty trends, ensuring its assessments remain up to date.

Expanding Beyond Facial Features

Interviewer: Currently, Caarisma focuses on facial features. What’s next?

Dr. Pooth: In the future, Caarisma MED will also evaluate body features like the neck, décolleté, and hands. Additionally, we are developing a modified BMI to offer an objective assessment of body aesthetics.

As the platform evolves, we expect even more advanced AI support for aesthetic clinics and practices, allowing doctors to make increasingly precise and data-driven decisions.

Two Versions: Consumer and Healthcare Professional

Interviewer: Why are there separate versions for consumers and healthcare professionals?

Dr. Pooth: Both Caarisma Consumer and Caarisma MED offer reliable results, but healthcare professionals require more detailed data. Doctors work in highly standardized environments and need objective assessments to compare results accurately, especially with consistent image quality.

The consumer version, on the other hand, provides patients with insights into their personal aesthetic potential while offering educational content on treatment methods, risks, costs, and the treatment process. The consumer app also includes features like finding qualified experts in their area and booking appointments directly. Though they serve different purposes, the two versions are complementary, bridging the gap between doctor and patient.

Physician Benefits

Interviewer: How do doctors benefit from using Caarisma MED?

Dr. Pooth: Caarisma MED offers numerous advantages to physicians. Internally, we like to refer to it as the most reliable assistant a clinic can have. The AI provides objective evaluations that raise the quality of treatments and processes. It also supports digital documentation, ensuring that every step of the patient journey is recorded with precision.

By delegating the onboarding process to the AI, doctors save valuable time. They can focus on discussing results with patients, designing personalized treatment plans, and, if desired, proceeding directly with treatment.

Caarisma MED doesn’t replace the doctor’s expertise—it enhances it. The AI offers objective insights, allowing the doctor to tailor their recommendations more effectively and transparently. This leads to higher patient satisfaction and trust.

Additionally, the consumer app helps doctors attract new patients. The expert finder feature connects consumers directly to clinics, providing an additional avenue for patient acquisition.

A New Standard in Aesthetic Medicine

Caarisma MED is setting a new benchmark in aesthetic medicine by introducing objectivity and precision to a field that has long been dominated by subjective assessments. Whether through improving treatment accuracy, enhancing patient satisfaction, or streamlining clinical workflows, AI is the future of aesthetic medicine.

Interviewer: What’s your long-term vision for Caarisma MED?

Dr. Pooth: My ultimate goal is to establish Caarisma MED as the gold standard in aesthetic evaluations. With AI, we can achieve greater precision and trust, bridging the gap between subjective and objective measures of beauty. It’s about making aesthetics more scientific, personalized, and transparent for everyone involved.

As AI transforms industries across the globe, aesthetic medicine is not being left behind. With leaders like Dr. Pooth at the helm, innovations like Caarisma MED are revolutionizing how we perceive and evaluate beauty.
